Ken Shimura (志村けん): My Favorite Japanese Comedian

I love to watch comedy shows for refreshment. It was about 4 years before I watched some comedy on YouTube in my native language (Bengali).

The acting was truly astounding to me; I was unaware that the translated language was identical to the original one.

But I found that the actors’ superb performance made it fun even for people who speak another language.

I realised upon arriving in Japan that the actor was Ken Shimura, a popular Japanese comedian and television personality distinguished by his humorous comedy, quick wit, and charming personality.
Shimura was known for his versatility and ability to connect to audiences of many backgrounds.

Though he was also skilled in satire and situational comedy, his comedy mostly consisted in performing the fool or in slapstick techniques.
Unfortunately, Ken Shimura died at age 70 on March 29, 2020, from COVID-19-related complications.

Through his many hours of comedy, I personally think Shimura’s legacy lives on and solidifies his reputation as one of the most popular comedians in Japan, making millions of people happy and laughing.

Still, I like his comedy and truly admire his commitment to ensure that his performance makes other people happy.
